Simple Social Media Strategy Breakdown

1. Business Objective
Very specific goal you want to accomplish. Examples: Awareness, Sales, Converting to email list or webinar.

2. Target Audience
Who do you want to reach? Who would most likely convert to your business objective?

3. Content
Type of content that will resonate best with your target audience and hit your business objective.

4. Measurement
Measure the results of your specific business objective and change audience and content as needed.

Let’s break this down into a real-world example.

Let’s use a dental office for this example.

1. Business Objective
Dental office goal is to get new patients.

2. Target Audience
They want to reach moms between the ages of 30-50 within a 10 mile radius of their location.

3. Content
An offer  – discount on all new patients – this office will run a Facebook offer for this discount where the new patient gets emailed the deal.

4. Measurement
New patient needs to bring in or mention this particular offer, so that the office can track how this simple social media strategy campaign worked.

It is important to break down each strategy and set goals for each. Companies may run multiple campaigns at once. Some objectives will be easily trackable, such as the example above. Some might be tougher to track.

Other examples I have done with my clients are:

  • Contest Campaign – building email list is how we measure
  • Customer Service – checking response time
  • Special offer – where they mention Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, etc
  • Customer Engagement – Track by looking at analytics
  • Customer Reach – Check analytics to see this too

You can do one or a combo of this strategy, but what is important is to break down each objective separately.

Platform goals should be broke down separately too. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest or any others should be looked at with different strategies and goals.

What types of objectives could your business use? I’d love to hear your ideas!
