Which wins for Video? YouTube or Facebook Video Marketing?

My answer. Both.

There you go. That’s my blog post. 😉

Let’s break each down. YouTube or Facebook Video?

YouTube Pros:

  1. Google owns it. Google owns it. Google…oops, I already said that. Since Google owns it, these videos get found in search.
  2. [Tweet “Videos on YouTube can drive traffic for months, even years!”] Just to show you an example.
    • Google “orthodontist Lakeville”.
    • Scroll toward the bottom. You will see a search result with an image of a video titled: ‘Getting Braces – Lakeville Orthodontics’.
    • This video was uploaded and optimized for search on YouTube in 2011. Yes, 2011!!! It has ranked on the front page of Google for 4 years.
    • This video has had 3,381 views (which is a lot for a small, local business) and still drives traffic to their website today.
  1. Advertising your video on YouTube is inexpensive and works.

YouTube Cons:

  1. Facebook does not like YouTube, so it is NOT good to share the link to your YouTube video over to Facebook.
  2. Related videos are not always related to your topic
  3. It’s not as easy to get views as it used to be

Facebook Video Pros:

  1. Facebook tends to get views fast
  2. Video is more likely to go viral on Facebook
  3. Facebook is improving their video platform daily to go up against YouTube
  4. Video can help a page get more reach than other types of content, ie. Pictures, links, text
  5. Very inexpensive to advertise using Facebook video

Facebook Video Cons:

  1. It is not connected to Google
  2. Video sharing/views last short-term. Does not have the longevity Facebook has.

In conclusion, both platforms have pros and cons. In the end, why not reach your audience in both places? [Tweet “Facebook video marketing is great for short term. YouTube video marketing is great for long term.”] You can win with both and use both to your advantage.

Videos can take a lot of effort and energy, so why not use all the marketing you can get?

I’d love to hear what you have found successful. YouTube or Facebook Video? Or both?
